Eternal battle : Xbox one vs. PS4

Playstation 4 vs Xbox One – What gamers think
With the two new major new generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft seeing the light of day at more or less the same time last year, everyone has been closely paying attention to the tight race between the two major console manufacturers. Both the Xbox One and Playstation 4 had seen great success with sales, and both consoles sold over a million units on launch day. But how do the users see the battle? There are of course Sony fans, Microsoft fans, and then there are the people who love both (or hate both) or are simply on the fence. What’s the result of the controversial “Playstation 4 vs Xbox One” battle? Let’s have a look!

Titanfall, a PC and Xbox exclusive title

IGN conducted a large survey in order to find out what fans think about the new consoles, and the results have been made public. Over 600.000 votes were registered from gamers everywhere, and voting was processed through several distinct categories. Here are the results from the votes, for each category:
  • Sony won in the Controller category, with a 68 vs 32% vote count. It seems users preferred the Playstation 4′s Dual Shock 4 controller over the Xbox One counterpart
  • Hardware-wise, the Playstation 4 won with a significant margin, getting a 71 vs 29 % vote count. This is hardly surprising, considering the fact that the two consoles have similar hardware specs, but at distinct prices. Yes, at $499, the Xbox One does include a Kinect camera, while at $399 the Playstation 4 does not, however, the Playstation 4 camera costs an additional $59, so overall, the Playstation 4 is still cheaper. Regardless, the voters have spoken, and the difference in votes is significant.

  • Next on the list was the Games Library section, where the race was a lot tighter. Both consoles have their own distinct franchises and titles, but the Playstation 4 won yet again with a 59 to 41 vote percentage. These results might be subject to change in the future, when more console exclusive titles will be coming out this year. The Xbox One will be getting games like Titanfall soon, while the Playstation 4 will get Driver Club or Infamous: Second Son. I feel this comparison might be worth re-doing at the end of 2014 for more accurate results.
  • On the Software side, Sony won again, with the same 59-41 vote percent ratio, and also won the vote-count on the Online Support category, with 62% vs 38%.
  • Lastly, Overall, 68% of users preferred the Playstation 4 over the Xbox One, summing up the fact that Sony’s console won every single category in the polls.

Now, these numbers seem to reflect the fact that Sony has also been doing better in terms of sales too. Recent numbers showed that 4.2 million Playstation 4 consoles were sold, while Microsoft only sold 3.1 million. Fans of both consoles argued in favor of their favorite gaming platforms. Xbox fans defended the console by stating that the real numbers were most likely higher and that the Xbox One is available in fewer markets world-wide, while Playstation 4 fans argued that the Sony console is constantly out of stock, which would suggest sales would have been higher with faster production rates and bigger stocks.
In any case, I feel like both consoles have their merit, and it ultimately comes down to preference. Polls show that the Sony Playstation 4 is the better console, and whether it’s true or not, it really doesn’t matter too much to the user playing in the living room. I honestly doubt any gamer enjoying a few hours of relaxation in the living room will constantly ponder on the implications of the Playstation 4 vs Xbox One battle. Regardless of which one you own or plan on buying, they are both solid products. Still, I have to commend Sony for its success, and I don’t mean sales-wise. They did a great job with building up a solid fan-base and winning the hearts of gamers world-wide.

SoulCalibur II HD Online Showcases

A new teaser trailer and a new batch of screenshots for SoulCalibur II HD Online shows off the character roster, both the original fighters and the guest brawlers.
The guest characters are Heihachi, Spawn and Necrid, a new character created by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. However, since the HD remake is only for PS3 and Xbox 360, Link from the Gamecube version of the original game has been omitted (unfortunate as he was my favorite guest fighter). Both the trailer and screenshots have been posted below.

STEAM : New online record!

The internet sales platform Steam currently experiences a heyday in terms of its user count. The record of users that were logged in at the same time, set in this year's January, was about 6.6 million. Last weekend a new maximum has been reached. On the 1st of December, 7.190.578 people used the online service, played one of the various games using the platform, or were at least logged in at the same time. Whilst some expected the user count to drop in the near future due to the next-gen-consoles, they're experiencing the exact opposite right now. A possible explanation to the current upswing can be found looking at the holidays, Thanksgiving being one of them. Furthermore, Steam's autumn sale should have a strong influence: The lowered prices provide attractive offers to potential customers.

Some information regarding the distribution of the users can be found on the official website. Accordingly, the action-real-time-strategy-game "Dota 2", which is developed and published by Valve, attracts most of the users, having about 400.000 users playing simultaneously. This is followed by "Counter Strike: Global Offensive", "Team Fortress 2", "Football Manager 2014" and "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" with today's peak at 69.508 on rank five. The multiplayer of "Call of Duty: Ghosts" just reached rank 13, whilst "Counter Strike" and "Counter Strike: Source" are still within the top 10, even after several years.

WarCraft : Information about the movie.

Everyone who had expected an entirely fictional story in the movie Warcraft, which is set in the same fantasy universe as the video games, will be surprised by Dominic Cooper. It's mainly a human story reflecting the dreadful conditions in our world. The well-known characters will be featured, yet there are going to be a lot of references towards reality.

In an Interview with CraveOnline, Dominic Cooper stated that this concept is supposed to lead to success, as cinematizations of video games haven't been very popular lately. After all, movies are more appealing if you're able to relate to them. For everyone who hasn't heard it yet, the Warcraft movie is said to be released in 2016.

Titanfall ALPHA

A new video from the alpha of Titanfall has surfaced, giving a great overview on the weapons and equipment options of soldiers and titans, not to mention a glimpse on a lot of frantic action. As an added bonus the video is direct feed and the game is played by someone that can actually hit something, which is surprisingly rare in leaked videos of unreleased games.

You can check it out below, courtesy of Fast Kill Squad. Remember that this is an alpha technical test, not a demo, so the graphics and gameplay you’ll be seeing aren’t representative of the final product. Take it as a partial glimpse on the future for those that didn’t get invited and nothing more.

Thief preview

It’s almost 10 years since Deadly Shadows,Thief reboot takes you in a dark fantasy world inspired by Victorian and steampunk aesthetics. Garrett, a master thief who has been away from his hometown for a long time, returns to it, a city named ‘The City’, and finds it ruled over by a tyrant called ‘The Baron’. While The City is infested by a plague, the rich continue to live in good fortune, and Garrett intends to exploit the situation to his favor.
Players control Garrett, a master thief, as he intends to steal from the rich. Similar to previous games in the series, players must use stealth in order to overcome challenges, while violence is left as a minimally effective last resort.Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, where the Baron’s Watch spreads a rising tide of fear and oppression, his skills are the only things he can trust.
Gameplay & Features: Step into the silent shoes of Garrett, a dark and lonely thief with an unrivaled set of skills. The most challenging heists, the most inaccessible loots, the best kept secrets: nothing is out of your reach.
Explore the sick and troubled City, from its shady back alleys to the heights of its rooftops. Sneak into rich houses, Infiltrate the best-guarded mansions and lurk in every dark corner… unnoticed and unsanctioned.Leverage Garrett’s arsenal to take down guards with your blackjack, shoot one of your many arrow types or use your newly acquired focus abilities to manipulate the environment and outsmart your enemies.
Thief (7)
What kind of master thief will you be?Become one with the world thanks to ground-breaking visual elements and a truly tactile and visceral first-person experience. Through jaw-dropping Next-Gen technical possibilities, THIEF delivers unprecedented immersion through sights, sounds and artificial intelligence.
Thief (8)
Choice Driven Gameplay:
Gameplay is choice-driven, with players having a number of possible paths and approaches in a given level.Players may use the environment to their advantage, as well as pickpocket characters. As Garrett attempts to steal in levels, guards and other non-player characters (if they are aware of his presence) will try to flush him out and kill him. Different NPCs may use different means to find him, and the game’s artificial intelligence will be aware of the level design, and therefore, know of potential hiding spots.
Thief
Use Focus mode to your advantage:
Players may enter a “Focus” mode, which provides several advantages. It enhances Garrett’s vision, highlighting pipes that can be climbed, or candles that can be put out to make the area darker. Focus can also slow down time, so that Garrett is able to steal more effectively while pickpocketing. Garrett can also use Focus to push enemies or perform debilitating attacks. It can be further upgraded over the course of the game.
The darkness as an ally:
To remain undetected, the first rule, stay away from the light. Wherever we go, we almost instinctively delete candles and torches or turn the electric lights off.
Thief (2)
Deadly combination of stealth and bow:
Garrett carries a blackjack, used to knock guards unconscious; a collapsible, compound bow, which can be used for both combat and non-lethal purposes such as distracting guards; and a claw, which can be used to grapple. Players may use money to purchase supplies and equipment at the end of missions. The bow is perhaps the most vital asset in the Master Thief’s arsenal. This composite wonder folds down for stealthier movement. While an arrow to the knee can cripple, an arrow to the head is often lethal. With the right attachment, arrows can also change the environment in the Master Thief’s favor.Sometimes, the only way around the Baron’s Watch is through it. A little smack on the head with a blackjack and it’s naptime for any guard.Rooftops and ledges are the Master Thief’s natural habitat. Garrett’s high-tech grapple makes it easier to reach higher ground.
Thief (10)
Brutal Combat:
Clooks intimate and brutal. When you employ Focus in combat, you can drag a cursor over body parts in slow-motion to tag them and perform attacks.
Thief (11)
Many roads lead to prey:
In game our goal is provided with a marking, it remains to our own devices to find the way there. We quickly notice that there are many possible routes. And many of them are well hidden. No flash arrow points us towards secret paths, We only get to see one path through it in the press demo, but the House of Blossoms looks like a large area with plenty of routes through it, and there’s evidence of various side rooms to explore.
Thief
Thief will be released for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms on February 25, 2014 in North America,February 27, 2014 in Australia and February 28, 2014 in Europe.

Hitman announced on Xbox one and PlayStation4

A new Hitman on Xbox One and PS4 will feature the largest open world levels the series has ever seen, but will see the end of magic pockets.
Developer Io-Interactive has written an open letter to fans describing their plans for the next Hitman ‘for next-gen consoles and PC’.
Despite the game not having been officially announced, and there being no screenshots or videos beyond the image above, the letter describes it in some detail:
In the next game you will experience a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA.
The game concentrates on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world. We are building this game on the backbone of the Glacier 2 engine, using the best parts and what we have learnt through Hitman: Absolution and drawing inspiration from past titles like Contracts and Blood Money to fulfil the core Hitman fantasy.
That means we’re packing in an extreme level of detail on the largest levels we have ever built for a Hitman game. We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the artificial intelligence to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves.
It’s also revealed that Contracts mode, which allows you to set-up your own hits for other players to try and complete, will be a part of the game. Agent 47′s ‘magic pockets’ have been removed though, with fans upset that he currently seems to produce sniper rifles and the like out of thin air.
Revealing a game in this way is unusual, but is no doubt a reaction to news that a second next gen Hitman, by Square Enix’s Canadian studio, was recently canned – causing fans to worry about the future of the series and of Danish developer Io-Interactive.
Io promise to reveal more later in the year, which may mean a formal announcement at E3 in June.
